Change of Laws

*Legislation past a law in August 2007 past a law that patients would not be billed for their exams. DFSS received $1.5 million funding for this law. Patients are to sign DFSS papers that allow permission to summit information to DFSS in order to pay for exam. Starting July 1st, 2008 DFSS will no longer be handling claims; it will be turned over to DPS. Forms will be available online.

*Medical treatment: Insurance of patients will be billed for treatment as well as DOH if there is evidence that trauma accrued. DOH will reimburse you for the treatment but NOT for medications.

*Sexual assault patients will now be able to receive an exam in both KS and MO regardless of reporting or not. Exam information does not have to be given to law enforcement unless patient wishes to do so.
-For KS, kits are to be housed by KBI – will hold for X amount of years
-For MO, place to house kits is TBA – No statues of limits, hospitals currently holding for 60-90 days.
